SIMPLE RULES, THOUGHTFUL MOVES
How to play Sokoban
Move the player through a small warehouse and push every box onto a target. You can push one box at a time, but you cannot pull boxes or move through walls.
- Move one square. Use the arrow keys, WASD, or the on-screen direction buttons. Walking and pushing each count as one move; only a successful push increases the push count.
- Plan the way back. A box pushed into a corner without a target cannot be pulled out. Undo is always available, so experiment without starting over.
- Cover every target. When all boxes sit on targets, the puzzle is complete. Continue to the next level or return to a previous challenge.
A FEW USEFUL DETAILS
Room to experiment.
Why does a box stop moving?
A box needs an open floor or target square behind it. It cannot pass through a wall, another box, or the outside of the board. Try undoing a push to recover a better position.
Can I play on a phone?
Yes. The board fits your screen; swipe on it or tap the direction buttons to move one square. Use Enlarge board for a closer view and scroll inside it, then Fit board to see the whole level again. You can also use your browser’s pinch zoom.
Will I lose my progress?
Progress is saved locally when browser storage is available. It stays in this browser profile and can be cleared using the game controls or your browser’s site-data settings.
What does a shared challenge contain?
A challenge link opens the selected level from its starting position. It lets someone try the same puzzle without revealing your solution or requiring an account.
Where do these levels come from?
The Brainfold Collection was provided by the site operator, who describes its layouts as manually designed and program-generated. The Workshop contains teaching layouts composed for Brainfold. Boxoban is a separate third-party dataset with its own source and Apache-2.0 license. Each collection has credits below the board.
